Gauze ball (sponge) - a small piece of gauze with folded edges, folded in several layers. Sterile gauze sponges with X-ray contrast thread TM "Bilosnizhka" are used to drain the operating field, stop bleeding during cavitary surgery (tamponade).
Sterile gauze sponges of TM "Bilosnizhka" with X-ray contrast thread have greater hygroscopicity (the ability to quickly absorb fluid) and capillarity (the ability to carry fluid from the lower to the upper layers of the bandage) than flat wipes. Thus, it is rational to use gauze sponges in cavitary operations, as they have a higher degree of absorption and are very convenient to hold with tweezers.
